USEFUL INFORMATION for TRANSFERS
Who is considered a transfer student?
Transfer students are those that transfer to Concordia with more than 24 units. Transfer students may have a maximum of 70 units from the community college or 96 units from a four-year institution transferred into Concordia. All transfer units are subject to approval from the Registrar's Office. Students may need to submit Substitution Forms (available in the Registrar's Office) to use transferred courses in their major. Please see an academic advisor for assistance.
Do I need to complete CUI's General Education Requirements?
Transfer students may choose to complete Concordia’s General Education Requirements or CSU/IGETC Certification. If a transfer student has completed or is pursuing CSU/IGETC Certification, s/he will need to submit the official documentation to the Registrar's Office prior to graduation.
Students who have completed their IGETC or CSU Certification are required to complete 2 P.E. courses, a minimum of 2 THL courses, and their 411 Senior Seminar course.
Note: The Registrar may grant a student CSU/IGETC certification (for a fee), but at lease 50% of the general education must have been completed through the California Community College System.
NEW TRANSFER STUDENTS (Entering Fall Semester 2008):
1. PLAN SCHEDULES for Fall and Spring semesters using the following links on our "Advising Tools " page to plan your schedule:
Write your classes down on an Annual Course Plan using the list of General Education Requirements and Fall and Spring Master Course Schedules. Some students find it helpful to use the Time Schedule Worksheet in planning their schedule. Most students take 15 or 16 units each semester.
NOTE: You need to have at least 12 units to be considered a full-time student and a maximum of 18 units.
2. ATTENTION ATHLETES! Set up your schedule ASAP and make your appointment soon to get the days and times that will work with practice and games/meets. Be sure to tell your academic advisor you are participating in intercollegiate athletics. If possible, consult with your coach and verify practice times/game days so you can plan your class times around them. For tentative fall practice schedules, click here.
3. MUSIC:
- CLASSES in voice, piano and guitar are open to beginning students and do not require an audition.
- ENSEMBLES: Students participating in an ensemble group (choirs, handbells and instrumental/band) should sign up for the beginning level, and any necessary changes will be made after auditions. Auditions are held during WOW (Week of Welcome) in August.
- PRIVATE LESSONS: Enrollment takes place at Registration.
4. ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) TEST SCORES are accepted by Concordia University. Scores of 3, 4, and 5 will earn college credit. Talk to your academic advisor about your AP scores. Be sure to have an official set of scores sent to the Registrar's Office.
5. TRANSFER CREDIT: Your Concordia class level (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior) is based on the official number of units transferable to Concordia. If you have taken any college courses, it is in your best interest to send all final official transcripts to Concordia as soon as they are available.
6. HONORS COURSES: Students invited to participate in the Honors Program will receive a letter from the Dean of Arts and Sciences and may enroll in "H" sections.
7. CHURCH CAREERS: Enroll in CCI 103 in either Fall or Spring. In the alternate semester, choose one of the appropriate classes: CCI 001 (Pre-Seminary); CCI 002 (DCE); CCI 003 (Teaching); CCI 007 (DPM)-offered in Spring
