CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY IRVINE NURSING PROGRAM EARNS 10-YEAR CCNE ACCREDITATION

IRVINE, Calif. – February 10, 2014 –Concordia University Irvine announced today that the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and the Associate Degree Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) programs have earned a 10-year accreditation from the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an autonomous agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for theaccreditation of baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral programs. A voluntary and comprehensive process, the CCNE accreditation team concluded that Concordia’s nursing programs engage in effective educational practices and continuous quality improvement.

“We are honored to be recognized for our nursing programs. This year-long, rigorous accreditation process has demonstrated to the medical community and our academic peers that we offer a high-quality nursing education that provides great opportunities for our students,” said Mary Hobus, R.N., M.S., Ph.D., director of the Department ofNursing at Concordia University Irvine. “The positive feedback that we received from CCNE will help us continue to grow the nursing program and set goals for the future.”

CCNE serves the public interest by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices. As a self-regulatory process, CCNE standards are designed to encourage innovation and experimentation in teaching. CCNE evaluates mission, goals and expected outcomes of nursing programs throughout the United States and evaluates the curriculum and its reflection on professional nursing standards and the needs of the community. Additionally, CCNE representatives analyze the parent institution’s support of the program, including involvement of the faculty and students and the resources they make available for program participants. The nursing program’s effectiveness is also measured by overall quality, program completion rates, licensure and certificate pass rates and employment ratesupon graduation.

The CCNE accreditation process included a thorough examination of Concordia’s curriculum and a formal on-site visit, which occurred in the spring of 2014.The visit included interviews with the faculty, students and administration. TheConcordia ABSN program began in 2008 and the RN to BSN program began in 2011. Recently, the ABSN program at Concordia was ranked in the top ten for the “50 Best Accelerated BSN Programs for 2015” from TopRNtoBSN.com alongside John Hopkins University, Duke University and Michigan State University.
